Christopher Nolan to Godfather Everything – APRIL FOOL’S DAY

News has broken that Christopher Nolan has been brought in to godfather every single comic book movie currently in pre-, post-, or mid-production, including Bryan Singer‘s X-Men: Days of Future Past and Jeff Wadlow‘s upcoming Kick-Ass 2, as well as all the films Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.

Having recently been officially brought on-board to oversee the entire DC Comics’ catalogue, Nolan – whose Dark Knight Trilogy grossed more than $2 billion – first godfathered Zack Snyder‘s Superman reboot, Man of Steel, due out on June 14th, which is already receiving positive buzz. Even so, Nolan would seem to have his work cut out for him.

Kevin Feige, President of Production at Marvel, who had previously seemed to be a big supporter of Joss Whedon, the current force behind the MCU, spoke out on Nolan’s involvement, saying “We are hugely excited to have an auteur like Chris working with our slate. His track record speaks for itself.” When questioned about Whedon’s continued participation, as well as that of Mark Millar, currently working on Marvel’s Fantastic Four reboot, Feige simply commented that, “They’re professionals. They understand that the more talent we can get on-board the better the work will be and I’m sure they’ll embrace the opportunity this represents.”

Both Joss Whedon and Mark Millar, it seems, were unavailable for comment.

We at AP2HYC must admit we’re a little worried. Nolan may be a genius, but with almost fifty big-budget movies due out over the next three years, his workload will be unimaginable and, we imagine, the quality can only suffer as a result.

Meanwhile, rumors abound that various high-profile superhero movies are already seeing the effects of Nolan’s involvement. Kick-Ass 2, for instance, has supposedly undergone a rewrite by which its hero, Dave Lizewski, played by Aaron Johnson, awakens in bed to discover that the events of the previous film were merely a dream and that, far from being a beloved masked vigilante, he is still a loser, with the rest of the movie to chart the effect this has upon his fractured psyche. Similarly, Peter Parker in Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will, along with Jamie Foxx‘s Electro and Paul Giamatti‘s Rhino, face down magician-turned-supervillain Mysterio, who will force him to confront not only his parent’s mysterious disappearance but the nature of reality itself. Bruce Campbell is supposedly in contention for the role.

More on this story as it breaks, and, of course, happy April 1st.
