The big news in Gotham this week is the official announcement of the villains in The Dark Knight Rises. The speculation about Tom Hardy’s role has finally come to an end with the announcement that he will be playing the muscle-bound Bane. Some initial reactions have been dubious about the actor’s ability to play such a powerhouse character, but one look at him in Bronson will convince you that he can definitely break Batman in half.
Meanwhile, Anne Hathaway will be taking on the role of the elusive Selina Kyle. While the Warner Bros. press release has no mention of Kyle’s alter-ego, Catwoman, fans would do well to remember how long it took for director Christopher Nolan to admit that Harvey Dent would become Two-Face in The Dark Knight.
It has been a very big week for this summer’s X-Men: First Class! First, on Tuesday (January 18), a questionable picture surfaced of the cast in costume:
However, the picture was taken down after only a few hours and set off a lot of debate about its authenticity. While it has since been confirmed that the image came from 20th Century Fox, it was not approved by director Matthew Vaughn, who, according to /Film, hated the image and said that it does not represent the film well at all:
I’m a fan of X-Men. We’re not bastardizing X-Men, I’m trying to get them back to being whole again… The costumes are blue and yellow as well, because f**k it, lets take it back [to] the original [comics]. Also, by the way, those costumes are hardly in the movie. The main costumes are like these cool 60’s James Bond…
Five more images have been released since Tuesday, in addition to the film’s first teaser poster. These are said to be a much better representation of the film and have been approved by Vaugn:
