Rupert Grint is Super Clyde

Collider is reporting that Rupert Grint has won the lead role in CBS TV pilot Super Clyde, which follows a fast food worker who begins receiving a $100,000 a month inheritance from his dead uncle and decides to set himself up as a superhero. Clyde seems, at first, to be not dissimilar from the 24 year old actor’s best known role, that of the bumbling, slightly diffident Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter film series. Clyde suffers from agoraphobia and anxiety issues and “decides that the cash will be his secret super power and [that he] will use it only for good and reward the good-hearted.” So, Kick-Ass meets Pay It Forward.

Super Clyde’s pilot will be written by Greg Garcia, creator of My Name Is Earl, who is also serving as Executive Producer, and directed by Mike Fresco, producer on Northern Exposure as well as Earl So far the show’s comedy credentials are looking fairly impressive, though Grint himself has recently been focusing on dramatic roles, including The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman with Shia LaBeouf and Evan Rachel Wood, due out later this year. Super Clyde will also mark Rupert Grint’s first TV appearance as a non-animated character. The pilot is also presumably due to air sometime later this year.
