Will Luke Skywalker Star In The New Star Wars Trilogy?

Recently Entertainment Tonight caught up with Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, to talk to him directly regarding the new Star Wars trilogy and, more specifically, Episode VII. According to the man himself, he doesn’t know of any deals being signed as of yet by any of the Star Wars franchises past actors including himself, Carrie Fisher or Harrison Ford. If this is indeed true, it would scupper the rumour that was purported earlier that Harrison Ford had already signed on to reprise his famous turn as Han Solo.

“They’re talking to us,” Hamill divulged. “George [Lucas] wanted to know whether we’d be interested. He did say that if we didn’t want to do it, they wouldn’t cast another actor in our parts – they would write us out.” This strongly suggests that he is in the loop and knows largely what is going on in the project. However, one must wonder whether the actor would actually be aware of any of the project’s intricacies and secretive developments? From a fan’s perspective it would be wonderful to see Hamill wield the old green lightsaber and don the shabby black cloak again, but only if it fit the story. Better for these characters to re-enter the Star Wars galaxy if the script warranted it rather than be shoehorned in.

Will Luke Skywalker, scourge of Wompas and a friend to Ewoks, return? We’ll have to wait with baited breath as the Episode VII casting story unfolds. Let us know your views on the reprisal of these old Star Wars characters or would you rather only see new blood enter this latest trilogy?
