Jennifer Lawrence to Wear Body Suit Instead of Make-Up as Mystique in X-Men: Days of Future Past

Having just won the Oscar for Best Actress for Silver Linings Playbook, it’s easy to imagine that Jennifer Lawrence might not still be soon keen on reprising a supporting role in X-Men: The Days of Future Past. However, apparently not only is Lawrence still on-board, she’s just glad to be cutting down on the time she’ll be spending in the makeup chair.

Lawrence apparently told E! that, “I’m so excited because I’m going to wear a body suit. It will be from neck down so it will cut out time and the blisters.” Lawrence spent countless hours a day in makeup on the set of 2011’s X-Men: First Class for her transformation into the blue shape-shifting Mystique (which may well qualify as a rather inconvenient irony).

With the first film having documented Mystique’s shifting allegiance, from her childhood companion Charles Xavier to the Brotherhood of Mutants’ leader Eric Lehnsherr, X-Men: Days of Future Past will presumably force her to take up arms against her former friend. Though the film will feature both Patrick Stewart/James McAvoy and Ian McKellen/Michael Fassbender in the roles of Professor X and Magneto – possible due to the element of time travel – it seems unlikely that Rebecca Romijn will be appearing, having played Mystique in the first three X-Men films. In any case, it could be intriguing to see the older Magneto come face to face with the younger version of the woman he disowned and left for dead in X-Men: Last Stand, especially given how this reflects on her relationship with his younger incarnation.

Possible plot developments and continuity issues aside, the film is due to start shooting in May, though Lawrence – perhaps not unreasonably – hasn’t had time to come to terms with the material: “I haven’t read the script yet. I haven’t had 30 minutes. They literally gave me the script and I was like, ‘I can’t read this until Monday.’”

X-Men: First Class, directed by Bryan Singer, is due out on April 14th, 2014, and features a franchise return for everything from Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine to Ellen Page‘s Shadowcat. Casting news seems to be breaking periodically, so until the next piece is leaked/released, here’s footage of Jennifer Lawrence undergoing makeup tests for First Class:
