A new trailer has hit the net for J.J. Abrams‘ Star Trek Into Darkness. Star Trek was the surprise hit of the summer when it was released back in 2009 and finally after almost four years of waiting, the long anticipating sequel is near. With footage coming in this one looks even darker and much more epic than its predecessor.
Taking a closer look at the footage, we can see trouble has no problem finding James T. Kirk (Chris Pine). I love how this and the first movie point out that although Kirk is captain of the Enterprise, he still has orders from Christopher Pike (Bruce Greenwood) that he must obey, although apparently he doesn’t always do so. I think it is safe to say that Kirk does everything he can to stop Benedict Cumberbatch, the villain of this movie, even if it defies orders from Pike. It’s also always great to see the banter between Kirk and Spock, both Pine and Zachary Quinto were great in the first movie and have amazing chemistry with each other.
As much as I love this trailer I do have to point out a lot of the action shown was characters just falling or jumping off of something, much like when Kirk and Sulu (John Cho) did the same in the first one, although that was an amazing set piece. Let’s just hope they don’t overdo it for this one. The tone of the trailers hint that this will be a dark movie (as the name would imply), but hopefully just enough to set itself apart from what once was Star Trek. I am eagerly waiting to see this action-packed film when it hits theaters May 17.
