5 Things We’re Looking Forward to Seeing in The Wolverine

As all X-Men fans must be aware, time is ticking down to the release of eagerly anticipated The Wolverine!

The dour mutant’s last big screen feature was 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which did little to reassure fans that the errors of previous X-Men outing The Last Stand were a one-off.

Director James Mangold will surely be hoping to win fan approval with this darker, more serious looking tale, based on one of Wolverine’s most celebrated story arcs: his time in Japan.

The story sees Wolverine – having quit the X-Men team and travelling alone – trying to escape his past and perhaps hoping to find a future.  When approached by a girl who claims she has “been trying to find [him] for over a year” he is quickly drawn into a world of promises and lies, danger and darkness. Will the fabled Wolverine find what he desires?

With the July release date drawing nearer, we decided to take a quick look at the things we’re most excited about seeing in the movie:

5. Viper

A tough, sexy character who has appeared in the Marvel universe since 1969 when she made her debut in Captain America. At the time, she worked for H.Y.D.R.A. under the alias ‘Madam Hydra’. She has also made appearances in the Ultimate and the Age of Apocalypse timelines where she was the wife of Kenuichio Harada A.K.A Silver Samurai.  With a rich backstory and a variety of talents, she should be a very interesting addition to the storyline.

Also noteworthy is the fact that the comic book Viper was basically a highly-skilled terrorist who never personally possessed mutant abilities. The trailer’s brief shot of her apparently shedding her skin may suggest that that is all about to change…
