We’ve known for quite some time now that everyone’s favorite S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Clark Gregg’s Phil Coulson, will be headlining Joss Whedon’s (hopefully) upcoming new TV series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. However, we have yet to have any kind of confirmation as to exactly how Coulson will be returning, since, as he puts it, “It was hard to miss the moment [in The Avengers] where that Asgardian bastard [Loki] stabs me quite thoroughly” and Coulson apparently died.
Talking to Screen Rant, Gregg had this to say about his apparent resurrection:
When Joss described to me the mystery that takes place in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the complexity and the unanswered questions about Phil Coulson standing there trying to deal with this, I found it so fascinating and so true to the world of the comics and mythology in general as I understand them that I was immediately in.
We here at AP2HYC have had our theories about how Coulson might come back, and there have been much more speculation across the internet, with the idea that Coulson will return as the Vision being one of the most popular and one of the most outlandish suggestions. Personally, I’m happy to believe that Fury lied about Coulson dying and that he was saved by the paramedics, but in the world of Joss Whedon and Marvel, nothing is ever that simple.
While we’ll have to wait until next month for the official confirmation, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is expected to begin airing in this fall, so we’ll have to wait until then to find out just how Coulson will return.
