Spawn Remake to Shoot in 2014?

After years of speculation and cryptic hinting, a reboot of Image Comics’ flagship character may well be on its way. It seems that the film could begin production as early as next year, with creator Todd McFarlane recently in talks about the project. He spoke with The Gate magazine this past weekend at Fan Expo Canada about his work on the script:

The thing that keeps slowing it down is that the negotiation I’ve done is I write, produce, direct, but I’ve got to push a lot of my other endeavours off to the side so I can just get tunnel vision on it. And so everybody at my company is now going, ‘We’ve got to find Todd the time to finish all this.’

“I think it’s a 60-70 day shoot,” McFarlane said. “It’s not going to be a giant budget with a lot of special effects, it’s going to be more of a horror movie and a thriller movie, not a superhero one. I’ve got so many people phoning now that I’ve got to get it done. I’ve made some promises to people this year. (The producers) want me to deliver the script by the end of the year, which would basically mean we’d be shooting next year so thats the goal right now.”

Actor Jamie Foxx, soon to make his superhero debut in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, has expressed interest and is apparently “aggressively pursuing the role.”

Will the character find renewed life amongst the new age rush of superhero movies? Or will budgetary constraints and corporate interest land another flop and bury Spawns movie career for good? Sound off below!
