The trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 just hit the web and boy is it jam packed with Spidey goodness. I will be the first to admit, I was not a huge fan of the reboot mostly because of the action and how Peter was portrayed as not truly a social outcast, but rather just your everyday person who gets super powers. I still have hopes for the sequel and good god, those action scenes do look intense, and there seem to be more villains in this one than heroes in The Avengers!
As far as the new characters go I feel I will need to be sold more on Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborne and Chris Cooper as Norman Osborne. From what we get in this trailer, they seem like blanket villains with no real depth or reason to go after Peter, let alone unleash what seems like the entire Sinister Six on him. As for Electro, the supposed main villain of the piece, we surprisingly get very little from him other than that big speech about ending Spider-Man. The message of the trailer seems to want us to understand that Electro is a side villain more than anything and that Spidey’s main adversary (adversaries?) will be much more Goblin related than anything else. Speaking of which we seem to be leaning more towards a Ultimate Goblin/ First trilogy hybrid from the quick shots we get in the trailer. The practical effects really seem to look much better than the heavy CGI fight scenes that we are getting at the end of the trailer, especially with Spidey kicking the Goblin off his glider. As for The Rhino, we never really get a good look at him or even hear him speak so I will reserve judgement until further notice.
It seems like we will at least be getting more of the Peter’s family side plot than we did in the original. It does feel from how the trailer is cut that Peter’s father had a hand in creating the Sinister Six, which is a very classic Spider-Man think to do. Hopefully it will be a really satisfying payoff and we are given quick glimpses of the final two members of the Sinister Six, Vulture and Doc OCk, and their gear looks really cool.
There is plenty to discuss so tell us what you think of the trailer in the comments down below!
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will swing onto the big screen on May 2nd, 2014.
