There are a lot of heroes who took a foray into space. Some are always there, and some just ventured there for a while. So let’s run down my favorite six!
6. Hulk
Does the Hulk count as “In Space”? I would point you towards the two comic arcs “Planet Hulk” and “World War Hulk”. Hulk gets blasted out into space and accidentally lands on the planet Sakaar. The Illuminati (a superhero group consisting of various heroes including Iron Man, Mister Fantastic, Doctor Strange, Black Bolt, and Professor X) end up causing more problems than they solved. Also just as an aside check out ” What If Hulk landed where the Illuminati intended?” A cool alternative look at what might have happened if the Illuminati’s intentions were played out.
5. Black Bolt
This guy is the king of the Inhumans. They’re a bunch of humans from Earth, at least until the Kree did some messing about with their genetic code. After some conflict on Earth, they decided to take up residence on the Moon and then the planet Hala. Black Bolt is usually silent most of the time as his voice at full strength it has the capability to destroy a planet. So even a whisper can do some serious damage.
4. The Silver Surfer
This guy surfs, in space, need I say more? All right, he starts life as a normal guy called Norin Radd (not on Earth, mind you) and is taken by Galactus and twisted into a puppet to help him drain life from planets. Eventually, he breaks free from Galactus’ control and he becomes a great advocate of peace, and an amazing hero defending Earth on several occasions.
3. Peter Quill A.K.A. Star-Lord
Come on you knew this had to be in here. Guardians of the Galaxy is just peaking over the horizon and I for one can’t wait. Quill is a smart talking, hard as nails all round tough space pirate. Having left Earth as a child, Quill now roams the galaxy, using the fact that no one has heard of Earth to build his reputation. But, as we’ve seen from the trailer, Star-Lord is not as cool as he thinks he is. But I’m still very excited for his first live action outing.
2. Optimus Prime
So what can I say about this awesome hero? He’s a 23-foot high space-faring robot who also occasionally wields a sword while riding a dinosaur. Hailing from the planet Cybertron, Optimus and the rest of the Transformers spent a good deal of time in space before finding a new home on Earth. A humanitarian (metaphorically speaking) please don’t take Michael Bay ‘s film saga of ridiculousness as a true representation of this awesome Autobot leader. He’s a true hero.
1. Phoenix
This elemental force of the Galaxy is hard to be called a hero, but there’s also no way it wasn’t getting on this list. True it does destroy a solar system, but the Phoenix still one powerful and incredible force in the galaxy. It first came to Earth to bond to Jean Grey, ultimately leading to her death at the hands of husband Cyclops. Later, Cyclops and four other X-Men each bond with a piece of the Phoenix during the Avengers Vs. X-Men storyline. Phoeniclops tries to take over the world, succeeds, but then is brought down by… well, I won’t spoil it for you. The Phoenix also bonds with Rachel Summers Jean’s alternate timeline daughter from the future and starts some serious fun with the mystical fire based being. And don’t forget- Jean-Phoenix took on Galactus! Now that takes some serious power.
