Tons of Star Wars News from D23 Expo

Some major Star Wars news has come out of the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California.

Firstly, there’s the first official image from Rogue One (above) from Godzilla helmer Gareth Edwards. It showcases lead actress Felicity Jones alongside co-stars Mads Mikkelsen, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Alan Tudyk, and Riz Ahmed. The presence of Yen and Wen should help the film gross over $100 million in China, a current trend for Hollywood blockbusters.

Unfortunately, all the characters in the picture were human but hopefully they’ll reveal some cool new alien characters soon.

Then, there’s the new poster for The Force Awakens drawn by the legendary Drew Struzan, who created all the classic Star Wars posters. Fans had been debating whether or not he would return for the new films since their announcement, but now those fears can finally be laid to rest.

In addition to looking awesome, the poster shows Finn, played by John Boyega, holding a lightsaber, confirming him to be a Jedi or at least force-sensitive.

J.J. Abrams confirmed that the current cut of the film runs for 124 minutes which will likely be close to the length of the final cut, breaking the hearts of fans who were expecting a Peter Jackson style epic runtime. *sob*

Jurassic World helmer Colin Trevorrow will direct Episode IX after Rian Johnson is done with VIII, and let’s just hope that he learns from the mistakes of his less-than-perfect dinosaur flick.

Lastly, Disney also announced that Star Wars attractions will be coming to their theme parks, which, at over fourteen acres each, will be the largest expansions yet. Check out some cool concept art of the attractions below:
