3. Denis Villeneuve
Denis Villeneuve is certainly making a name for himself at the moment, directing films such as Prisoners and the brilliant Sicario. He is currently attached to direct the Blade Runner sequel, which may prevent him from taking over the Bond series, but he would add an exciting spin to the series. Villeneuve may not be as big a name as the rest of the directors on the list, but he would definitely be an exciting addition to the series. As seen with Sicario and Prisoners, the director can build tension, something which would work well in a gritty version of Bond. After all, he got great performances out of both Jake Gyllenhaal and Hugh Jackman in Prisoners. Villeneuve is one of the most exciting directors around at the moment and would make for a great Bond director.
2. Christopher Nolan
Christopher Nolan is probably near the top of most people’s list to take over the director’s seat. The Dark Knight director can do no wrong in many people’s eyes. He is definitely a big-name director that can pull in viewers by just plastering his name over a poster, something the Bond producers will be considering whilst searching for a new director. Nolan also boasts great writing credentials, and if he could bring his brother Jonathan into the mix, then we have a very exciting prospect on our hands. Nolan can handle the action and would delve into what makes the character tick again.
1. Matthew Vaughn
Matthew Vaughn is my first choice to helm Bond 25. The director most noticeably known for X-Men: First Class and Kick-Ass has worked with Daniel Craig before in the stellar British crime drama Layer Cake. Vaughn’s most recent film Kingsman: The Secret Service proves that the director has what it takes to direct a spy film, and we certainly think he could take over the director’s seat. Vaughn has experience directing action films as seen with his superb filmography, and can blend the right amount of comedy needed for Bond. Vaughn would allow the space for a fresher take on Bond.
Whoever takes over the franchise has a lot to live up to after the success of Skyfall and Spectre. We are excited to see where the series goes next.
