The 2015-16 season brought with it some of the most intense fight sequences in recent history. Whether they involved powers or one’s bare fists, the following fights were easily the most memorable of the past year.

Hive VS Daisy (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)

Three seasons in the making, the showdown between the woman formerly known as Skye, and the body formerly known as Ward, was one of the more physically and emotionally brutal fights we’ve seen on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Particularly exciting is the fact that it involved all of their respective skills. It would have been easy to have this battle be strictly Inhuman, with Hive and Daisy relying solely on their powers to duke it out, but the sequence instead combined the raw humanity of the characters with their admittedly awesome powers.

Daisy landed just as many physical punches as she did powered gusts, and the fact that she was landing them on the face of Ward made it that much more intriguing to watch. The two characters have been linked together from the beginning, no matter which version has been present, and this showdown was the culmination of three years of hurt, betrayal, and pure, unadulterated, rage. – Silje Falck-Pedersen

The Daredevil Stairs Fight (Daredevil)

After the rave reviews that last season’s one-take fight got, it’s no surprise that Daredevil decided to shoot for round two in the second season. The hallway/stairwell fight between Daredevil and the, “Dogs of Hell,” was another insanely awesome action sequence that, despite the fact that it took place in a comic book show, felt real. While his senses are obviously heightened, much of Matt’s work as Daredevil is based purely on the fact that he has trained himself to do certain tasks. He doesn’t have insane powers and he isn’t a billionaire with gadgets that do much of the work for him.

The stairwell fight highlights this fact by showing us each and every punch that Daredevil lands and receives. Daredevil excels at adding realism to an otherwise insane genre, something that is perfectly emphasized through this visceral sequence. –Silje Falck-Pedersen

Hydra Fight Club (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)

AOS Fight

This scene was absolutely brutal. Both May and Hunter become more ruthless than we’ve ever seen them before and stop at nothing to bring down the Hydra goons that they’re pit against. What’s so visceral about this scene is the fact that it shifts between both agents and, while their fighting styles may differ, both tap into an almost primitive side of themselves in order to get the job done. We’ve known from the start that both May and Hunter can hold their own, but throwing them into an underground fight club was one of the more intense ways of displaying their varied skill sets.

While Hunter had previously excelled in weaponry, dabbling in hand-to-hand when need be, this scene gave viewers an entirely new understanding of just how vicious he can be. And I mean… c’mon, how could a fight that ends with, “How ‘bout I do you a favor and not tell anyone that a tiny, little, Asian woman kicked your ass,not be nominated for best of the year? – Silje Falck-Pedersen

Punisher Prison Fight (Daredevil)

Like most of the Daredevil fight sequences, the battle royale between Frank Castle and the inmates was bloody, brutal, and a complete jaw-dropper. With men being impaled by broken mops, and bones breaking in surround sound, the Daredevil prison fight was one of the more primal and vicious brawls that has been seen on television this year. Perhaps most jarring is the steady manner in which Frank’s white jumpsuit becomes progressively more crimson as the fight continues.

The blood spatters grow, the slow motion of the camera captures the pure animalism of the fighters, and fatal blows are delivered in the blink of an eye. Eye-sockets are gouged, necks are snapped, and by the end of two minutes Frank Castle is walking away and leaving a literal pile of men in his wake. – Silje Falck-Pedersen
