Brief team-ups are always fun to watch, but there’s something to be said for the long-term pairs that we’ve watched evolve over time. Having experienced highs and lows, happy moments and sad, and continuously proven to put their partners above all else, the following duos have been the most triumphant of the season.

Fitz & Simmons (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)

Dynamic Duo- FitzSimmons

Since the first season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Fitz and Simmons have primarily been known as, “FitzSimmons.” Friends for over a decade, the duo has faced more tragedy and horror in three years than most experience in a lifetime. The two have had the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows, and yet somehow managed to make it out of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’s third season in tact- which is a real feat considering Season 1 ended with a brain-damaged Fitz and Season 2 left us with Simmons being whisked away to another planet.

Despite a rough patch involving a Space Boyfriend, Fitz and Simmons powered through and continued to prove to everyone, themselves included, that they’re stronger together than they’ve ever been apart. Better yet? The brilliant scientists finally made their smartest move to date and crossed the Event Horizon, turning an already enviable friendship into a relationship that has been three seasons (and ten years) in the making. – Silje Falck-Pedersen

Sam & Dean (Supernatural)

Dynamic Duo- Sam and Dean

There is nothing these two monster-hunting brothers can’t handle. We’ve seen them star in herpes commercials, chase fairies, and battle both angels and demons alike. But no matter who or what they’re facing, it is the Winchesters who steal the show. Only these two can evoke feelings of heartbreak and horror together with genuine laugh out loud moments. The fact that they’ve looked death in the eye (metaphorically and literally) numerous times makes it even more impressive that they haven’t gone completely mental. And as we all know, Sam & Dean owe what’s left of their sanity to each other.

Since losing everyone close to them, it appears to be an on-going contest between the two brothers over who reaches martyrdom first. But hey, their heroic, borderline suicidal, ways are part of why we love them. – Lisa Montgomery

Peggy & Jarvis (Agent Carter)

Dynamic Duo- Peggy and Jarvis

Peggy and Edwin, Carter and Jarvis. No matter how you squeeze their names together, a dynamic duo you’ve got. Since the first season of Agent Carter, it was evident that the bond between Peggy and Jarvis was the true heart of the show. Both characters have their admitted share of strengths and weaknesses, which is what makes them such an excellent team. Each brings necessary skills and connections to whatever zany mission they get roped into, which has allowed for such a consistent success rate. The two are reflective of a true friendship and, oftentimes, are the only people in each other’s lives that they can be consistently, and bluntly, honest with.

While their successful crime-fighting lifestyle naturally makes them one helluva duo, even in calmer moments Peggy and Jarvis are a pair that is hard to beat. – Silje Falck-Pedersen

Jessica & Trish (Jessica Jones)

Dynamic Duo- Jess and Trish

Friends since childhood (though begrudgingly to begin with) Jessica and Trish are a Yin/Yang pair in every regard. While their priorities and lifestyles may differ, the common concern for both is, naturally, the other. While the duo tends to disagree more than they do agree, they’re each capable in their own right and are willing to go the distance to protect one another. Trish remains the true constant in Jessica’s life and serves as a much-needed pillar of strength and wisdom whenever the titular hero begins her self-destructive descent.

While Jessica may view her love for Trish as a weakness, the bond between these two women is what ultimately allows them to defeat Kilgrave, and makes them one of the strongest duos of the year. – Silje Falck-Pedersen

The Doctor & Clara (Doctor Who)

Dynamic Duo- Clara and the Doctor

No relationship is, or ever will be, quite like that between the Doctor and his companion. The relationship between Clara and the Twelfth Doctor is one that has been endlessly entertaining, with general amusement interspersed with poignant moments that highlighted the deep connection shared between the two. The relationship seems to be based on witty banter and an amount of bickering that only the oldest of married couples might be able to compete with.

While the two certainly had their fair share of arguments, smattered between the eye rolls and almost begrudging acceptance of one another was a genuine affection and camaraderie. Gallivanting on adventure after adventure, the Doctor and his companion were a duo that were, despite what they might claim, the very best of friends. – Silje Falck-Pedersen
