Whether it involved jumping through a portal to another planet, or racing against time, this year’s nominees for, “Biggest Damn Male Hero,” have risked life and limb for others. The fate of many worlds were in each of the following’s hands and, though some made the ultimate sacrifice, each did everything in their power to keep said worlds safe.

Leo Fitz (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)

Male Hero- Leo Fitz

Where does one even begin to detail the numerous ways in which Leopold Fitz has demonstrated his heroism this season? I suppose the best place to start would be mentioning the fact that he jumped through a hole in the universe to save the woman he loves from a distant, desert, planet. Fitz has been pretty damn heroic from the get-go but his courage and bravery tends to skyrocket whenever Jemma Simmons is a part of the equation. Since the traumatic pod scene from Season 1’s finale, Fitz has grown into one of the most consistently heroic agents that S.H.I.E.L.D. has to offer. While he often risks life and limb to ensure that Simmons remains alive and well, Fitz is equally as willing to protect his friends and fellow agents. Whether it involves teaming up with Daisy to thwart the Watchdogs, or inventing another life-saving gadget to protect the Director, Fitz’s heroism is always present. –Silje Falck-Pedersen

Barry Allen (The Flash)

Male Hero- Barry Allen

Barry Allen encapsulates everything that makes up a hero; his selfless determination and desire to be the better man has driven the series. I mean you can’t even imagine the complexities and dilemmas that have faced him thus far: having to sentence your Mother to death time and time again, discovering your mentor is actually your biggest antagonist in disguise. The list goes on and on! Barry as a character is well-rounded and believable when compared to the likes of Oliver Queen or any of the characters in Legends of Tomorrow; his moral code and decision processes are well-founded and generally receive the audiences full backing, even when he stumbles. Barry is a hero through and through, always willing to sacrifice his powers for the greater good. –Jake Barber

Lincoln Campbell (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)

Male Hero- Lincoln Campbell

Unfortunately, Lincoln’s most heroic act came in the form of the ultimate sacrifice. Having spent much of his time on the show questioning his purpose in life, and never really fitting in no matter where he was, Lincoln always felt that Daisy was a large part of his pre-destined equation. Willing to wear Coulson’s, “suicide vests,” if it meant being able to find his swayed-love, and foolishly injecting himself with Simmons’ vaccine in the hopes that it might aid in finding a cure for swaying, most of Lincoln’s heroic moments were fueled by his feelings for Daisy. Unfortunately, such love and heroism proved to be his downfall as Lincoln used his final moments to sacrifice himself and save the girl he loved. In the end, it was Lincoln who was the mystery agent killed in the QuinJet and his death was the result of his desire to do good and make certain that Daisy Johnson would still be around to save the day. –Silje Falck-Pedersen

Matt Murdock (Daredevil)

Male Hero- Matt Murdock

Between getting shot in the head and losing the love of his life, Matt certainly took his fair share of beatings this season. However, despite all that, he was still able to rise above it all and become the hero we all know him to be. Nothing can keep him down, and we always know that no matter what, he’s going to get back up again and again, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. –David Molofsky

The Winchester Bros (Supernatural)

Male Hero- Winchesters

How could we pick just one of the Winchesters for biggest male hero? The brothers are a package deal and it’s about time we acknowledge the hard work these two, seemingly ordinary, guys put in to prevent the world from going under. Without any supernatural powers (other than those occasionally afflicted on them) Sam & Dean roam around the country saving people and hunting things… and more times than not they actually seek out danger rather than wait for it to come knocking. The Winchester brothers have been to hell and back (multiple times), fought everything from werewolves to Paris Hilton, all while giving us the humor and emotional drama that has become their trademark. In fact, they’ve done it so well that Supernatural is now in it’s 11th year. Needless to say, these male heroes have accumulated quite a fan base. –Lisa Montgomery
