The 2015-16 television season has come to a close… and so has the second annual AP2HYC TV Awards! Voters came out in full force to represent their fandoms, amassing a record-number of votes and ensuring that their choice picks got the support they deserved. And, while each fandom had a respectable turnout, one in particular seemed to emerge ahead of the rest.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D? More like Agents of S.W.E.E.P! Marvel’s first foray into television dominated the competition this year, winning eleven of the twelve categories for which it was nominated and a whopping 85% of the total categories. And, while S.H.I.E.L.D. was the clear frontrunner of the awards as a whole, it should be noted that the Supernatural fandom amassed more votes for a single category than most others combined, giving the Winchester Brothers the lone victory over S.H.I.E.L.D.

Best Costume: Daisy Johnson (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)
Fans have been awaiting the reveal of Daisy Johnson’s super-suit since her name was first uttered towards the end of the show’s second season. Known in the comics for her sleek costume and fashionable/practical gauntlets, Daisy Johnson’s MCU apparel left many people praising Ann Foley’s ability to revamp certain things to better suit the television format while keeping enough similarities to get comic fans’ stamp of approval. Daisy’s entrance in the Season 3 premiere, utilizing her powers with an expertise that she was lacking at the close of Season 2, was made that much more epic by the fact that it provided the first look at her new field attire. Gauntlets? Check. Incredible detailing that likely isn’t done justice onscreen? Double check. A fun and updated spin on a beloved comic visual? Triple check with an exclamation point. Though still not quite known as, “Quake,” Daisy’s new suit is fit for the superhero moniker that the Inhuman will soon embrace. –Silje Falck-Pedersen
Break-Out Star: Natalia Cordova-Buckley (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)
Since, “YoYo,” was first introduced in the midseason premiere of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., fans have been expressing their love for the new Inhuman speedster. Elena is a character with a genuine desire to do good, whether it be through stopping corrupt police officers in her home country or teaming up with the Secret Warriors to save S.H.I.E.L.D., and strives to use her, “gift,” in a positive and productive way. Her no-nonsense attitude and quick humor immediately made Elena a beloved character and portrayer Natalia Cordova-Buckley a standout in a show that is already jam-packed with talent. –Silje Falck-Pedersen
Most Out-of-This-World Character: Hive (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)
Ironically, Hive both started and ended his time on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. “out of this world.” The universe’s first Inhuman, and tentacly inspiration for Hydra, was originally wasting away on distant-planet Maveth but, thanks to some classic body-possession, managed to come down to Earth long enough to cause complete chaos for our favorite team of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. Though not around for long, Hive stirred up a heckuva lot of trouble and caused a helluva lot of damage for each and every member of S.H.I.E.L.D. Whether it was using the memories of Jemma’s space-boyfriend to bring her to tears, or all but Inhuman-rufieing Daisy to get her to do his bidding, Hive was willing to hurt anyone in order to achieve his master plan. Of course, S.H.I.E.L.D. managed to stop him before said plan was fulfilled and, ironically, did so by shooting him out-of-this-world in a QuinJet strapped with a nuke and headed for space. –Silje Falck-Pedersen
Biggest, “Oh no they didn’t!” Plot-Twist: Swayed Daisy (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)
“The Team,” was one of my favorite episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. this season due large in part to the fact that it felt like an old-school espionage mystery. Much of the hour focused on sussing out which of the Secret Warriors had been mind-warped by big-bad Hive and, while there were more red-herrings than in an Agatha Christie novel, the reveal that it was Daisy of all people who had switched allegiances was a true jaw-dropper. The fact that she happily threw much of her team under the bus (to throw everyone else off her trail), had no qualms murdering Malick in cold blood, and barely batted an eye while quaking the Playground hangar to the ground made the reveal that much more insane. –Silje Falck-Pedersen
Best Fight Scene: Hive VS Daisy (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)
Three seasons in the making, the showdown between the woman formerly known as Skye, and the body formerly known as Ward, was one of the more physically and emotionally brutal fights we’ve seen on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Particularly exciting is the fact that it involved all of their respective skills. It would have been easy to have this battle be strictly Inhuman, with Hive and Daisy relying solely on their powers to duke it out, but the sequence instead combined the raw humanity of the characters with their admittedly awesome powers. Daisy landed just as many physical punches as she did powered gusts, and the fact that she was landing them on the face of Ward made it that much more intriguing to watch. The two characters have been linked together from the beginning, no matter which version has been present, and this showdown was the culmination of three years of hurt, betrayal, and pure, unadulterated, rage. – Silje Falck-Pedersen
Best Death: Lincoln Campbell (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)
Alas, the vision of the future that viewers saw in the midseason premiere, depicting the death of an Agent, was not a ruse or misinterpretation. Lincoln Campbell was the fallen agent that was so cruelly teased for weeks leading up to the emotional Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. finale that left the Inhuman sacrificing himself for Daisy. The moment was far more bitter than sweet; however, there was something deeply poetic about a lost boy finding purpose in his last moments of life. Always struggling to fit in, Lincoln had a moment of epiphany when realizing that he could prevent Daisy’s death by taking her place in the doomed QuinJet. The newest Agent’s final goodbye was a tragic thing to watch, his cut-off declaration of love causing more than just Daisy to break down in tears, but the peacefulness he seemed to find while overlooking the universe made Lincoln’s death a heroic and memorable one. –Silje Falck-Pedersen
Biggest Bad: Hive (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)
First glimpsed terrorizing Jemma Simmons during her 4,722 hours on Maveth, Hive then managed to possess the body of Grant Ward and make his way into Earth’s stratosphere to terrorize everyone there. And boy did he. With his Inhuman army, Hive managed to get S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and Inhuman-extraordinaire Daisy under his sway… which naturally led to a slew of physical and emotional ramifications. Hive did a ton of damage, both to Hydra and S.H.I.E.L.D., and didn’t care who perished along the way to his idea of the greater good. Many a death can be linked back to Hive (umm… remember when he melted and absorbed those Hydra sacrifices?!) but it was the internal damage he caused to our favorite S.H.I.E.L.D. team that really made him such a dangerous villain. –Silje Falck-Pedersen
Best Team-Up: The Secret Warriors (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)
Teased since last year’s San Diego Comic Con, the Secret Warriors finally banded together in the back half of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s third season. Comprised of Daisy, Lincoln, YoYo, and Joey, the Secret Warriors did a pretty solid job at using their various skillsets to help retrieve the rest of their S.H.I.E.L.D. team from the clutches of Hydra. The combination of super speed, vibration control, electricity, and metal distortion made the Secret Warriors’ first outing a successful one during which each team member played a starring role. Sure the whole, “Daisy got swayed by Hive in the process,” thing put a damper on the gang’s success, but the foursome’s debut was definitely a fun thing to witness and a clear indicator that the Secret Warriors might be teaming up again. –Silje Falck-Pedersen
Most Kick-Ass Female: Daisy Johnson (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)
It’s hard to remember that Daisy Johnson was first introduced to us as a homeless hacker living out of her van. Daisy has come a tremendously long way since her days as Skye and, powers or no, she has grown into quite the kick-ass S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Having learned from the best (the Cavalry is the top SO in town, no?) Daisy has emerged as one of the most compelling heroes on television. She is a fighter indeed but it’s her empathy that makes her such a strong character. And, while her powers are awesome, it’s Daisy’s frankly endless skillset that really makes her such an asset to S.H.I.E.L.D. Excelling in hand-to-hand combat, unbeatable with a computer, and able to destroy entire hangars with her powers, Daisy Johnson is kick-ass in every definition of the term. –Silje Falck-Pedersen
Most Dynamic Duo: Fitz & Simmons (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)
Since the first season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Fitz and Simmons have primarily been known as, “FitzSimmons.” Friends for over a decade, the duo has faced more tragedy and horror in three years than most experience in a lifetime. The two have had the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows, and yet somehow managed to make it out of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’s third season in tact- which is a real feat considering Season 1 ended with a brain-damaged Fitz and Season 2 left us with Simmons being whisked away to another planet. Despite a rough patch involving a Space Boyfriend, Fitz and Simmons powered through and continued to prove to everyone, themselves included, that they’re stronger together than they’ve ever been apart. Better yet? The brilliant scientists finally made their smartest move to date and crossed the Event Horizon, turning an already enviable friendship into a relationship that has been three seasons (and ten years) in the making. – Silje Falck-Pedersen
Biggest Damn Male Hero: The Winchesters (Supernatural)
How could we pick just one of the Winchesters for biggest male hero? The brothers are a package deal and it’s about time we acknowledge the hard work these two, seemingly ordinary, guys put in to prevent the world from going under. Without any supernatural powers (other than those occasionally afflicted on them) Sam & Dean roam around the country saving people and hunting things… and more times than not they actually seek out danger rather than wait for it to come knocking. The Winchester brothers have been to hell and back (multiple times), fought everything from werewolves to Paris Hilton, all while giving us the humor and emotional drama that has become their trademark. In fact, they’ve done it so well that Supernatural is now in it’s 11th year. Needless to say, these male heroes have accumulated quite a fan base. –Lisa Montgomery
Best New Series: Jessica Jones
Certainly the grittiest of the Marvel shows that have been produced over the years, Jessica Jones combines all of the best aspects of the superhero genre with some very real issues that are often overlooked on television. Rather than giving viewers a picture-perfect hero, Jessica Jones provides audiences with an imperfect anti-hero who, despite having extraordinary gifts, is a character that people can actually identify with. There is no sugarcoating in Jessica Jones, something that is deeply refreshing considering the heavy topics that the show regularly deals with. In addition to the compelling storylines and ever-evolving protagonists, Jessica Jones also has one of the most disturbing villains in recent pop-culture which makes it a show that is both good and gripping. –Silje Falck-Pedersen
Best Season: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
This season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. had everything that continuous fans love and all of the things that those who dropped the series in Season 1 were lamenting for. The insurgence of Inhumans and other powered people has served to heighten the action of the show, while the humanity has continued to create the heart-wrenching and heart-warming emotional moments that steady fans have come to associate with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. “4,722 Hours,” remains one of the best episodes of this entire television season and, happily, many of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s other episodes met an equally high bar. As the darkest, most emotionally intense, and most action-packed season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. so far, Season 3 is one that has successfully combined solid storylines with the general tone of intrigue and wonder that Marvel fans so love. –Silje Falck-Pedersen
