TRAILER: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Up until now, most of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has been largely under wraps with previous trailers hinting at only small bits and pieces regarding the overall plot and tone of the film. However, with roughly two months left to go, we’re finally given a trailer that truly exemplifies what we can expect from the new Harry Potter franchise.

The trailer gives us a rough idea of what the plot of the first film will be. Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) has just finished some sort of expedition regarding magical creatures, an expedition that most likely ends up inspiring the textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. However, some of the creatures ultimately end up escaping his suitcase resulting in them running amok around New York City. This causes chaos between the magical division of America and the No-Majs, the equivalent of muggles in England.

While most of the basic plot was known to us through the teaser trailers, we get a lot of small details this time around. For one, it appears Colin Farrel‘s character is a wizard who is tracking down Newt Scamander but may also end up becoming the villain of this film. Based on the brief dialogue we get from him, it becomes clear he is against the idea of wizards forcing to live in secrecy. In fact, the conflict between secrecy amongst the No-Majs and non secrecy will appear to play a large role throughout the film.

There’s also Dan Fogler‘s character, a No-Maj who somehow gets entangled in Newt Scamander’s plight. And this is probably one of the more interesting aspects the film may have to offer us. Very rarely in the Harry Potter franchise did we get to see non magical characters interacting with the magical world and here, it finally looks like we’ll get to see a glimpse of that. At the very least, it appears Dan Fogler’s character will take the idea of the two worlds interacting with one another to a whole other level.

Of course, we also finally get to see some of the fantastic beasts that will painting the scene. The creature designs look amazing and if there was ever a reason to brush up on your Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them knowledge, now is certainly the time.

The overall feel of the movie even seems unique and exciting compared to previous Harry Potter works. Setting this in the 1920s will give us an interesting new perspective of the wizarding community. If seeing a group of wizards wands ready in trench coats followed by 1920s police officers doesn’t make you excited, I don’t know what will.

There is one final interesting component to this trailer that may give us a clue as to how this series will play out. At first, it seemed a little confusing as to how this film could ultimately expand into an additional two films. But now with just one piece of information, we may finally start to know how what this trilogy will focus on.

The President of the Magical Congress of the United States of America states at one point in the trailer that something is related to the Grindelwald’s attacks in Europe. For those who don’t know or can’t recall, Grindelwald was one of the most powerful, dangerous dark wizards of the time and friends with Albus Dumbledore. Could it be that Grindelwald will be the main villain of this trilogy? Given the information that we have thus far and the fact that this series will somehow be a trilogy, that seems very likely. Which also means, we may get to see the events mentioned in Harry Potter and the Dealthy Hallows play out.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is scheduled to be released worldwide November 18th, 2016. What are you most looking forward to in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them? Share in the comments below or on Twitter!
