6 Reasons to Get Excited for Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers: Infinity War is going to be all kinds of awesome and epic. The heroes of the MCU are going to finally face Thanos the Mad King in a showdown of epic proportions, so much so that it’s going to take two movies to detail. We have more than a year before it comes out, but we have plenty of MCU movies to look forward to on the way to Infinity War: Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther are all before the epic event.

The movie will premiere on May 4, 2018, directed by the Russo Brothers. It will feature the Avengers, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and the Guardians of the Galaxy. It will have a ton of star power from all the great actors in it too. There are many reasons why you should be excited for this movie, and here are the top six:

6. Post-Civil War Drama

After the events of Captain America: Civil War, the Avengers team become divided. Tony was left to lead the official Avengers. Steve and the rest of his side were left to their own devices. Sam and Steve probably travel the world together with Scarlet Witch, and no doubt that Hawkeye went back to his family and Ant-Man probably went underground. With the Avengers divided, Earth is at its most vulnerable. How could Earth be safe when its greatest heroes aren’t speaking to each other? I’m sure that we are going to see some Tony Stark classic ingenuity on how to protect Earth. But facing Thanos? I don’t think that anyone could be ready.

It’s probably going to be a lot of awkwardness when the Avengers’ factions have to work together because if not, Earth is doomed, not to mention having to deal with the Guardians and newer heroes like Dr. Strange and Spider-Man. It’s going to be all very complicated and very busy.

5. The Infinity Gauntlet and the Infinity Stones

The lead up movies to this one introduced the Infinity Stones. The Tesseract from Captain America: The First Avenger andAvengers Assemble was powered by the Space Stone (blue). It’s in Asgard for safe-keeping.

Loki’s sceptre held the Mind Stone (yellow) in The Avengers. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Baron von Strucker used it to give Wanda and Pietro powers. Eventually, the Mind Stone is used to power the android Vision. The Reality Stone (red) was the cause of all the trouble in Thor: Dark World. Fearing that it would be dangerous to have two stones so close together, the Asgardians trusted the Reality Stone to the Collector.

The Power Stone (purple) was the centre of all the shenanigans of Guardians of the Galaxy. It was left with the Nova Corps for safekeeping. The Time Stone (green) is encased in the Eye of Agamotto, which is used by Dr. Strange in his movie to defeat Dormamuu. It’s hidden away in Nepal. The only stone not yet introduced is the Soul Stone (orange) and it will probably, maybe, be a part of Guardians of Galaxy Volume 2 or another third phase movie before Avengers: Infinity War premieres.

The right-handed gauntlet is stored in Odin’s vault. The left-handed gauntlet is with Thanos. Now I’m not sure why there are two gauntlets because there are only six Infinity Stones, unless the stones power something different with each gauntlet. I’m not sure. But the fact that all the movies and events are centered on these stones and the gauntlet, I’m excited to see how it will all come together.

4. Thanos

Thanos is the biggest of the big bad guys of the Marvel Universe and is the biggest bad of the MCU. There’s literally like only three Marvel villains that are bigger than Thanos—Galactus, Apocalypse, and Kang the Conqueror. Thanos is known as the Mad-King. His daughters include Gamora the Universe’s Most Dangerous Woman and Nebula. He’s a world-conqueror and a world-destroyer. He’s not someone that can be taken lightly. And he wants the stones. After his minions failed, I’m sure that once Thanos has to do something himself, he will have no mercy and take no prisoners to get what he wants when he wants it.

3. The Team-Up to Make DC Cry Rivers of Tears

Let’s take a look at the line-up for the heroes involved in this story: Tony Stark/Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Vision, formerly Captain America/Steve Rogers, Falcon (probably), Black Panther (maybe), Ant-Man (maybe), Spider-Man, Star-Lord, Doctor Strange, Thor, Hulk, Gamora, Rocket and Groot, Drax, Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and SHIELD (and maybe even a return of Bucky Barnes the Winter Soldier). That’s a lot of heroes. And it doesn’t include the supporting characters.

Two of its biggest teams, The Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy together on one screen. Well, obviously it was all coming to this with all the different phases of the MCU. It was a lot of planning on Marvel Studios’ producers and writers’ part. Even if some say that it’s getting too messy and complicated, Marvel still makes the movies and plenty of profits. Will it pay off? Most likely. Will there be too many characters to do them all justice? Considering how Marvel Studios handled the ton of characters in Captain America: Civil War, I think it’ll be fine.

Also taking into account that it will be a two-part movie, though each movie is not one-movie in two but two distinct movies, there’s a lot a room for to include the other MCU heroes, like the Defenders (premiering sometime in 2017, after Iron Fist premieres) andThe Inhumans (premiering in Sept 2017).

2. Epic Snarkiness and Quips

Even though the movie is going to be super-serious because if Thanos wins everyone’s screwed is kind of serious, we’re going to have Spider-Man, Iron Man, Star-Lord, and Rocket all interacting with each other. If that’s not a recipe for poorly timed and in poor taste jokes, hard-hitting quips and all-around snarkiness as a defense mechanism, I don’t know what is. I mean, Spider-Man is the king of quips and awful puns and always talking during fights. Rocket has a scathing round of insults for anyone and everyone. Tony is always good for sarcasm. And Star-Lord/Peter is the guy who challenged Ronan the Accuser to a dance-off to distract him. Enough said.

1. The Ultimate Face-off

Who’s ready for the battle between the Avengers and the Guardians against Thanos and his Army of Followers? I am. I am so ready. Marvel Studios had proven in the past that they can do epic fight scenes—see Captain America: Civil War and Guardians of the Galaxy, just for a couple of examples. Facing Thanos is the biggest threat ever faced by the heroes of the MCU. Thanos is powerful, especially since he has an army and lots of alien technology that surpasses even Stark tech.

I expect a lot out of the Battle against Thanos and you should too. Marvel will have to step up their game to impress the hell out of us fans.

Filming is underway for Avengers: Infinity War as of January 23. If you want to see what Kevin Feige, Robert Downey Jr., Tom Holloway and Chris Pine have to say about it, check out this video for the First Look at the movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PyrgGTFp0E.  There is a long year plus ahead until we get to see the culmination of the MCU into Avengers: Infinity War.
