The Magical Mythical Mice is Escapism at its Cutest

Looking for a fun series of short stories for you children, then The Magical Mythical Mice is for you.  This comic features a series of vignettes featuring mice who are also classic mythical creatures. These are charming three page stories that will delight anyone with kids or just loves cute stories.

The most charming part of this comic is the artwork by Eleanor Hollindrake. The artwork is pleasant to look at and simple enough to appeal to its target audience. The designs do a splendid job of combing a mouse with the magical being they are also representing. The backgrounds are also delightful and represent each unique character as well. I especially like the setting of the Phoenix mouse being someone who is interested in Ancient Egypt. The Mermouse story also has a pleasant setting with a wonderful underwater design. The human characters do come off as a little stiff but they appear so little in this book it is not a major concern. The coloring is also vibrant and creates what feels like a magical world that these creatures live in.

As for the stories they are more of little vignettes than full-blown stories. They are observations or gags based on the magical ability of each of the mice. The one that follows this the most is the Phoenix mouse. We see it chased by a sphinx and then it blows itself up to scare it off before being reborn from an egg. While based on an obvious observation of how a sphinx is a lion it is still a fun little idea and kids will get a kick out of it.  The others are based more on the characters discovering something or wanting to be something and focus less on their own abilities. The Mermaid sees a pirate ship and dresses up as a pirate while the Unicorn finds a magic want and turns everything into sweets.

The Dragon mouse meanwhile tricks a knight into tracking it down by pretending to be a real dragon so it can make a new friend. While these vignettes do not use the uniqueness of each character as much as the Phoenix story they are still cute ideas that readers will get a kick out of. I think it would be interesting to see these characters in a more complex and rich story down the road but these vignettes are also fun and a good way to introduce these characters.

The Magical Mythical Mice will not change your world view or teach you something about society, but if you are looking for a cute and fun escape from the world then this will be right up your alley. If you have children then you will find a comic you can share with them and they should get a kick out of it as well.
