The Forces of Evil Prepare to Strike Back in Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer

Hold on to your toy lightsabres ladies and gentlemen, the good people at Disney have finally… FINALLY released the first teaser for the latest entry in the space operatic sci-fi, Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer, and by golly it didn’t disappoint!

The eighth (ninth, including Rogue One) film in the long running saga is due to be released in mid-December but the money churning mega-giants had held off promotion for the film, only feeding eager fans scraps until the Star Wars anniversary celebration this week.

So what do we know so far? Mark Hamill actually has a few lines this time, some of which sound rather menacing. Poe Dameron stays fit by running to and from explosions, and a glimpse of the Millennium Falcon can still make fans go weak at the knees.

The film picks up where The Force Awakens left off, and the little over two minute trailer focuses heavily on the relationship between a now older, grizzled Luke Skywalker adopting the role of Yoda overseeing the training of the young, wide-eyed Rey – though it is unclear whether she’ll have to run around with him on her back at any time during training.

As well as the fantastic shots of Rey training, there are also brief glimpses at what appears to be scrolls and passages from the Journal of the Whills, which makes sense considering Luke’s whereabouts. If the rumours and theories are to be believed, then The Last Jedi will reveal more about origins of the Force than any film previously.

Rey and Luke aside, there are also brief glimpses of our other heroes, including Finn, who looks to still be reeling from his encounter with Kylo Ren, and the under-utilised Poe Dameron alongside his scene stealing companion BB-8. On the other side of the force, Kylo Ren, minus a destroyed mask, looks hellbent on getting his own way after being defeated in the previous film.

J.J. Abrams planted the seeds with The Force Awakens, and proved there was life in the series without George Lucas. Now, new director Rian Johnson (Looper and Brick) looks to continue the winning streak with what looks to be one of the bleakest entries so far. Though the teaser thankfully didn’t reveal too much with regards to the story, what we did see however, is that the First Order are about to strike back with a vengeance.

There’s no doubting that the hype train for one of the most anticipated films of this year has now well and truly started, and with other Marvel related films out this year, it seems that Disney will once again dominate at the box office.
