6 Things We Want in Sony’s Spider-Verse

Sony has announced plans for the Venom solo movie and a movie starring Black Cat and Silver Sable called Black and Silver. It’s great. Tom Hardy will play Eddie Brock Venom, even if I think Agent Venom might be better but whatever it’s cool. And you bet I’ll go see Black Cat and Silver Sable’s movie. Good/bad (depends on how you feel about it) news, though, the Sony Spider-Verse will be connected to Spider-Man: Homecoming and therefore the greater MCU.  Now, of course, this brings a whole slew of interesting problems and possibly storylines. So here’s some things we want in Sony’s Spider-Verse.

6. Distant from the MCU

Since, Sony is going through with the Venom movie and the rest of their Spider-Verse and connecting it to Spider-Man: Homecoming , I am hoping that they are going to have only subtle Easter Eggs like in the Netflix MCU shows and not overt connections to the MCU. Even though I’m so over Peter Parker’s Spider-Man and I don’t think it’ll be a good idea to have Sony’s movie have to fit into the large, messy and old MCU, I wonder how they are going to manage. Will Marvel Studios be involved in the Venom movie or the Black and Silver movie? How much will it connect to the MCU?

5. Carnage

Carnage

I want to see Carnage v. Venom and WE ARE TOTALLY GOING TO GET IT. You better believe it. It’s going to be the most vicious, brutal battle. Venom is one of the most dangerous supervillains in Marvel Comics, but Carnage is on another level of depravity. It took the combined efforts of Spider-Man and Venom to take down Carnage in an uneasy alliance, the first time. Originally, I thought Sony should have the first Venom movie as an origin and becoming-an-anti-hero story and make it the cornerstone of their side of universe, but have Carnage appear somehow at the end of it. There needs to be a Carnage and we’ll be getting him right away. We are totally having Venom and Spider-Man teaming up against Carnage, how epic would that be!

4. Alternate Earths and Multiple Spideys

If it’s a Spider-Verse, I want to see multiple versions of Spider-Man. Hell, I wouldn’t even mind Spider-Ham but mostly I want Miles Morales Spider-Man, Jessica Drew Spider-Woman, Anya Corazon Spider-Girl, Spider-Man 2099, Spider-Gwen, Silk, Julie Carpenter Spider-Woman or her version of Madame Web, and the old Madame Web, the random and probably that I’m the only one that knows this, Golden Age Spider-Queen (not even by Timely/Marvel, but was basically Spider-Man before there was Spider-Man, except a woman and older) and Spider-Man Noir. This could be the ultimate team-up and they don’t even have to mention Peter Parker’s Spider-Man much because said dude has five (the sixth coming soon) flipping movies and everyone knows who he is.

3. Spider-Woman

I would never be adverse to have the main character/hero of a new superhero franchise be a kicka$$ female character like Jessica Drew (current weird run, where she’s a mom now, okay, it’s cool), but alas we won’t.  We’ll just settle for any news about Jessica Drew in any movies and maybe even getting her own movie.

With the success of Wonder Woman, it might be possible. Jessica Drew has all the same Spider-powers of Peter Parker, but so many more. Her ‘venom blasts’ which could kill someone and heightened sense of smell. She’s a strong enough character and has a rich history that she is a reasonable and good choice to be the main hero. Canonically Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers’ best friend, so it would be awesome to have Jessica Drew cameo in the Captain Marvel movie. This particular character also worked for SHIELD so that’s another angle that Sony can go with, considering Sony’s setting it in SM:H.

2. Miles Morales/Ultimate Spider-Man

Miles Morales

Honestly, I kind of love Miles more than Peter. Ultimate Spider-Man Miles Morales is a good kid. If you want to talk about reluctant teen-superhero, Miles is a great one. The new Peter Parker is more gung-ho about being a superhero, thanks to his super-cool-mentor Tony Stark AKA Iron Man. Iron Man only invited a fifteen-year-old to battle against fully grown warriors/the other half of the Avengers, hey, no big deal. Miles Morales will only add much welcomed diversity into the Sony’s Spider-Verse. I mean, wouldn’t it be awesome if Miles was inspired by Spider-Woman once he got his powers to become Spider-Man?! It’s okay for boys to look up to women as role models, after all.

But this is also where the alternate universes can come into play because USM Peter Parker was killed in battle with the Green Goblin and then Miles became Spidey. (Oh no, we are totally going to have to watch Peter Parker die on the big screen, gah for many reasons, because it will sell so many tickets!)

1. Sinister Six

Sinister Six

Sinister Six plans are also confirmed for the Sony Spider-Verse. Still, Spider-Man of the MCU needs some of his villains, one per movie since it’s going to be a trilogy. He can share some of the Avengers, too. But having Sinister Six would be killer. Kraven the Hunter, or these villains: (who already appeared in movies, so doubtful they will be in the MCU) Green Goblin, Electro, Rhino, Mysterio and Doc Ock would be great choices for the Sony/MCU Sinister Six.

Give the MCU Peter Parker Spider-Man Vulture, Hobgoblin, Scorpion, Shocker, and Beetle as enemies, as you know single opponents. Let’s have a super-awesome Sinister Six verses Spider-Man Peter, Venom, Spider-Woman, Spider-Man Miles, and the other Spiders. Hell, put Carnage in the Sinister Six as the one that the other villains can’t control. Imagine a new Green Goblin, Kraven the Hunter, and a new Doc Ock, a much-needed new and better Electro, Carnage, and Rhino or Mysterio as Sony’s Sinister Six.

Sony does decently well with their Marvel properties. I mean, everyone loved Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2—and even though the other three movies were not as good as they should have been, they still made a killing at the box office. I think Sony’s been sitting back and watching how Marvel Studios, Warner Bros, and Fox handle their superheroes—which is why they gave Peter Parker/Spider-Man mostly back to Marvel Studios (Sony will still get paid when we go see Spider-Man: Homecoming, either way and any other appearance of Spider-Man on the MCU screens).

Sony’s going to try to build a universe centre on the Spiders of Marvel. Hopefully, Sony will work with the Marvel Studios to make it fit properly into the MCU. Spider-Verse stories are interesting to say the least. Let’s hope they don’t flub it!

What do you think? Do you think that Venom will be able to work as a standalone movie? Do you think that it’s a chance for the others Spiders to shine with news of the Spider-Verse? Sound off in the comments or send us your thoughts on Facebook or Twitter!
