AP2HYC TV Awards 2017 – Best Make-Up

Summer is officially here, which means the primary television season has come to a close. The season brought with it the return of beloved superheroes, a heckuvalot of robots, and enough villains to make our heads spin. To celebrate another year of awesome, nerdy, super television, AP2HYC is hosting our third annual TV Awards! After months spent reviewing and recapping your (and our!) favorite shows, the AP2HYC writers have selected the best of the best to compete for victory in the 2017 TV Awards. Be sure to cast your votes in each category, and check back to find out which of your favorite shows, characters, and crews will come out on top!

Along with costume and VFX, make-up plays a huge part in the suspension of disbelief. Which of the following gets your vote for most impressive slap?

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

A whole host of Inhumans and other creatures have been brought to life through the vision and talent of the SFX make-up team, and they are also dab hands at turning our stomachs with human flesh wounds too.

Westworld

From bullet wounds to snaking tattoos to desert grime to synthetic flesh, Westworld’s beautiful attention to detail helped create a creepy, uncanny atmosphere and the SFX make-up differentiated our android hosts from their human counterpoints brilliantly.

The Flash

A nifty make-over turned Dr. Caitlin Snow into Killer Frost. Amazing how a slick of dark lipstick and those icy blue contacts render Danielle Panabaker practically unrecognisable.

Supernatural

As well as the charred bodies, ghostly entities, and on point eyeliner flicks for glam witches, the make-up department on Supernatural has its work cut out making sure the Winchester Bros are constantly covered in the hyper-real looking bumps and scrapes which mark the hunters.

The Walking Dead

While the humans are always splendidly post-apocalyptic looking, it’s the zombie make-up which steals the show every single week on The Walking Dead. The gargantuan task of realising the gruesome and varied designs on such a huge cast of supporting artists is not to be sniffed at…

Supergirl

J’onn_J’onzz

From Martians to Khryptonians, to Daxamites, Supergirl’s cast of alien beings are beautifully rendered with prosthetics and make-up designs which are out of this world!

Doctor Who

Where would The Doctor be without the hoards of alien beings, enemies and allies, who populate his Universe? Perhaps one of the longest running and hardest working make-up departments in TV history, they have provided plenty of thrills and chills this season, particularly with the introduction of the terrifying Monks. The stuff of nightmares!

Which show’s make-up was the most transformative? Vote below!

Voting has ended. Check out the victors of the 2017 TV Awards!
