6 Ways the Guardians of the Galaxy Could Team-up with the Avengers

With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 out in a few short weeks, there’s a lot of speculation at to what could happen, especially with the announcement that Avengers: Infinity War is being filmed as I write this article. We still have three more MCU movies after Vol.2—including: Spider-Man: Homecoming (July 2017), Black Panther (Fall 2017), and Thor: Ragnarok (Nov 2017). The heroes of the collective Marvel Cinematic Universe will finally face the biggest bad of them all (at least, in the MCU), Thanos the Mad Titan. It will feature the Avengers, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and the Guardians of the Galaxy. There’s one Infinity Stone yet to be premiered in the MCU, which is the Soul Stone (orange) and it will either be in Vol.2 or Thor: Ragnarok. But here are the ways that the Guardians can team up with the Avengers:

6. S.W.O.R.D.

S.W.O.R.D. is the counterpart of S.H.I.E.L.D. S.H.I.E.L.D. is the covert operations on Earth, while S.W.O.R.D. handles the covert operations off-Earth. S.W.O.R.D. was only briefly mentioned at the end of Thor and as far as I know is not known like S.H.I.E.L.D. Hopefully, S.W.O.R.D. was not compromised because of HYDRA (see Captain America: The Winter Soldier) and was separate enough from S.H.I.E.L.D. not to feel the repercussions of those events. S.W.O.R.D. would be a good way to have Earth be interacting with the Nova Corps or the empires of the universe. Would S.W.O.R.D. know something about the Infinity Stones and Gauntlet? Who knows, but I hope they include this covert government agency in the MCU.

5. The Collector and the Grandmaster

We’ve met the Collector already in the second Thor movie and the first Guardians movie. Grandmaster, the Collector’s brother, will be in the third Thor movie (played by Jeff Goldblum). Perhaps we shall see the brothers interacting in the after-credits scenes and speaking about the Guardians and the Avengers and the stones. It would be interesting since those two characters are immortal beings known as the Elders of the Universe and they totally like to play games with the Marvel superheroes just for the hell of it.

4. The Nova Corps

The Nova Corps is literally easiest way for the Guardians and the Avengers to team up. If S.W.O.R.D.’s not involved, you can bet that Tony Stark has some sort of technology that can have him communicating with people off world. Nova Corps are aware of Earth (or Terra as it is known) as a backwater planet, but it is very possible that they have operatives nearby. Considering that there is a Nova that becomes a superhero on Earth, it’s possible that we might see Sam Alexander’s origin as Nova (or maybe his father or the original character Richard Rider, but I’m totally hoping for Sam Alexander as Nova) by finding the helmet after the Guardians and the Avengers face Thanos. Because Nova Corps will be all in to defeat Thanos I think and that might have some repercussions.

3. Wakanda

If Tony Stark doesn’t have the tech possible to communicate outside of Earth to alien civilisations, Wakanda definitely has to have some. Wakanda is one of the most technologically advanced nations on the Marvel Earth. Wakandan scientists could definitely inform their king and protector, T’Challa/Black Panther about any information concerning off-world events. It would also be a good way to include Black Panther in the craziness of the team-up.

2. Thor and Hulk

I’m so glad before I wrote this article that the teaser trailer came out for Thor: Ragnarok because it helped a lot. Since Thor and Hulk got themselves accidentally wrapped up with Grandmaster, by end of the movie, the two can be travelling the universe or heading back to Earth. I can see Hulk and Thor crashing into the Guardians along the way. The Guardians, by the end of Vol.2, could be on the way to Earth because Thanos is taking matters of collecting the stones into his own hands and they want to warn Earth. Thor would definitely brag about the Avengers (since he doesn’t know about the events of Civil War, or does he?) and the Guardians doubt that they can handle the incoming threat of Thanos. Oh, a space road trip with the Guardians (new members and all) and Hulk and Thor sounds fun doesn’t it?

1. Thanos Heads to Earth

Obviously somewhere between the second Guardians movie and Thor: Ragnarok, Thanos is going to go on a rampage looking for the stones. Asgard has the Space Stone (Blue), so it’s possible that Loki might hand it over. The Mind Stone (yellow) is what is keeping Vision alive and the Time Stone (Green) is in Kamar-Taj, India as seen in Doctor Strange. The Nova Corps have the Power Stone (purple). The Collector had the Reality Stone (Red) but it was taken at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy. Knowing Marvel, Thanos will have four of the six stones by the time of Avengers: Infinity War. Remember how Marvel Studios built everything, the upcoming MCU movies will be geared towards the ultimate clash against Thanos. Thanos heading towards Earth, brazenly, will set off tons of warnings and alarms.

There’s a lot of good movies from Marvel Studios that is all leading to the team up between the Guardians and the Avengers. The routes that the writers can go to get the two teams to team up are many but the ones I picked are the most likely in my opinion. Who knows what’s going to happen in The Defenders either? There are a lot of things in the air with the MCU since it is so expansive. We will just have to wait and see

What do you think? How will they get the Guardians and the Avengers to team up? Sound off in the comments or send us your thoughts on Twitter!
