Capers XP

Want to become a digital superhero? Want to build your experience working on the front lines of a digital brand? Want an internship where you’ll be given real responsibilities from day one? Capers XP (Experience/Portfolio) is a unique mentorship program for students and graduates to join the super team at A Place to Hang Your Cape (AP2HYC). The program is designed to give you real-world experience working for a digital brand, learning the skills that will help you develop in your digital career. On Capers XP, you will be paired with a member of our Senior Team who will train you to develop new digital superpowers, such as:

  • Article writing
  • Article editing
  • Social media marketing
  • Email marketing
  • Digital marketing strategy
  • Video production
  • Audio podcasting
  • Graphic design
  • SEO

Whatever you produce while on Capers XP – articles, videos, podcasts, etc. – will be published on AP2HYC so you can start creating a professional digital portfolio. We will also work with you to design a project that will show off your new skills and give you a chance to act as a project leader.

Previous Capers have gone on to work for the likes of Buzzfeed, Screen Rant, and Sky, while others have written for pop culture magazines or even published their own books.

Our application process requires a very special type of cover letter.

We want you to write it as though you’re a superhero yourself. Imagine you’re Iron Man writing to Nick Fury asking if you can be a part of the Avengers Initiative or the Flash pleading with Batman to become a full-fledged member of the JLA. You can write as an existing character or create your own. Be imaginative, witty and engaging with the cover letter. The more creative you are, the more you’ll stand out!

Testimonial:

“The 10 months I have spent writing, editing, interviewing, and podcasting for AP2HYC have been wonderful. From my first assignment, I appreciated both the autonomy I was given in my writing and the guidance that was there for me when I needed it. I got to write about movies and comics that I cared about as well as ones I hadn’t heard of before. I had pretty much no experience with the world of indie comics before working for AP2HYC, so just by itself that exposure was great to have. When I transitioned into an editing position, I was proud of the work I had done and eager to take it to the next level. Once again, the AP2HYC team was supportive and welcoming. I know that the hands-on experience I have amassed during my time at AP2HYC (not to mention all the fun I have had) will only continue to benefit me in other job experiences.”
