We have followed Henry Henry on this journey of utter madness for five issues and Ryan O’Sullivan has given us a conclusion we never could have expected. Fearscape #5 will punch its readers in the gut as they’re thrown in for one hell of a loop in the final moments of this comic.
When we last left Henry Henry, he was about to make yet another terrible decision. But before he is able to complete his mission, he is forced to flee back into the Fearscape. While there, in order to save his own skin, he must make a decision that will ultimately impact not only the rest of his life but humanity itself.
Unfortunately, there isn’t much more we can say about the plot of this comic as too much will be given away otherwise. Henry once again delights his audience with his unlikable charm. However, at the same time, this comic forces you to rethink the previous issues of the story and will ultimately make you feel like an ass. It’s an intriguing way to capture the audience.
Ultimately, the ending is a satisfying conclusion for these five issues. However, there is also a small enough cliffhanger that allows the story to continue past volume one. It’s a good place for readers to end if they aren’t curious what happens next but also feel as though they got a conclusive ending. Of course, we can’t wait to see what potentially happens next.
As always, the artwork in this issue is phenomenal. As characters descend into their deepest, inner thoughts the art flows through the panels. The darkness seeps through the pages, feeling as though the reader is being engulfed with the characters.
We’ve mentioned this before in other reviews, but we’ll say it again. This comic has such a unique story while also tying itself into the classic story beats of the Hero’s Journey. Henry Henry steals the show with every panel. He’s so unlikeable yet so fascinating to watch. His journey all seems to make sense by the end of this issue, allowing us to fully understand him.
We simply cannot recommend this comic enough. And, rather than purchasing these issues individually, you can now buy Fearscape Volume 1 which contains all five issues of this comic. It’s the perfect way to prepare for future volumes!
