6 Things To Consider About DC’s Film Universe

3. It’ll Be Dark And Gritty – Just Like We Like It

Long gone are the days of campy, light-hearted superhero movies as we further descend into an age of darkness. For some people, it’s difficult to look at superheroes as being dark and gritty, a complaint found in most of the criticisms for Man of Steel. If you were to go back to the oldest issues from DC, you’ll find that early superhero tales were a little on the light side. It wasn’t until the late 80’s/early 90’s that we started getting the really dark, brooding superheroes in the comics, and it’s these versions that seem to be the biggest hits in Hollywood. Nolan’s Batman followed this trend, as did Zack Snyder‘s Superman, and it looks like the Batman v Superman movie will be no different. It’s very unlikely that the rest of the DC Cinematic Universe will stray from this model. As the old saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

2. There Will Be Comparisons

There will always be comparisons between Marvel and DC. That’s a fact. You have the hardcore fans on both sides who will constantly argue over which is better. Now that DC is making big strides at the box office, the competition will become even more fierce. There will be more arguments online, more shouting matches at the movie theater, and more people constantly feeling the need to one-up each other. The epitome of this clash will occur sometime in 2016, which is when Batman v Superman will be released alongside Captain America 3. The Suicide Squad movie will also be released around that time as well, meaning that fans will be even more riled up.

1. It’s Going To Be Awesome, Whether You Prefer DC Or Marvel

For real comic fans, the DC Cinematic Universe is going to be awesome. It’s pointless to argue over which is better. Both Marvel and DC have their strengths and weaknesses. You can prefer one over the other, but you’ll never reach a logical conclusion as to which one is objectively superior to the other. The main thing to remember is that we have the ability to enjoy epic movies that utilize outstanding special effects and technology; something that we couldn’t do a few years ago. Why waste time arguing over who makes a better movie when you can sit back and watch the greatest fictional heroes and villains clash on the big screen? Just enjoy the ride.

We still have a long time to go until we’re graced with the plethora of DC movies. Until then, we can only sit and listen as thousands of casting rumors and plot details float around. Even though I’m a huge Marvel fan, I’m pretty excited to see what DC has in store, and I think that their cinematic universe will leave us satisfied.
What do you think about the plans for the DC Cinematic Universe? Do you have high hopes for it, or do you think Warner Bros. is biting off more than it can chew? Let us know in the comments or give us a shout on Twitter!
