Top 6 Characters DC Should Make a Film of Instead of Justice League

3. Static

It’s not just female superhero films that are in short supply. African American superhero films include the Blade Franchise (Great! Mostly…), Hancock (Okay… if you’re in the right mood.), Spawn (Disappointing at best) and Steel (Oh dear god, no). Enter: Static! When geeky high school student Virgil Hawkins gets exposed to an experimental chemical after being caught up in a gang war, he gains electromagnetic powers! And don’t ask me to list all the ways he can use these powers because, hoo boy, there’s a lot.

Not to mention the fact that he’s simply an interesting character, both as a superhero and a person. He’s a geek who likes comics and gaming, he often faces hard choices as a teenager, and frequently has to deal with intense issues like gang violence, drugs and other things your mother doesn’t like to talk about. All in all if DC doesn’t make a film about him… I’m gonna start mailing those envelopes of weaponised anthrax I’ve been keeping for a rainy day!

2. Lobo

Lobo[1]

There are anti-heroes… and then there’s Lobo! An intergalactic alien mercenary and bounty hunter who killed his own people with a plague of flying scorpions, his name means ” He who devours your entrails and thoroughly enjoys it”. I think that tells you everything you need to know about him, eh?

He’s already starred in the much beloved short film: The Lobo Paramilitary Christmas Special, but I think he’s due a big screen debut! There were talks of Guy Ritchie doing it, but he dropped out. Then it was announced that Brad Peyton would write and direct, but nothing furthers been heard about it. Seriously, DC. Get off your arses and get to it!

1. Sandman

No, not that one. This isn’t the Neil Gaiman Sandman. This Sandman, real name Wesley Dodds, was a crime fighter who was cursed with prophetic nightmares about future crimes. Thus he donned a purple cape, green suit, fedora and gas mask to become the Sandman. Armed with a gas gun, he solved crimes with the aid of his love interest Dian Belmont.

Sounds interesting, right? It get’s better! In 1993, Vertigo started it’s own version. Set in the 1930’s, Sandman Mystery Theatre was a pulp-y, film noir-esque series that was dark, gritty, atmospheric and full of suspense and mystery. The purple cape went and a trench coat came in it’s place. Awesome. If DC adapted this version of Sandman, I swear, the sky’s the limit! Get the original writers involved (Matt Wagner and Steven T. Seagle), make it a noir period piece and people WILL go and see it. Hell, I’ll be first in line. Get cracking, DC!

What do YOU think of these characters? Should they be green-lit right away or should DC see how many more Justice League characters they can stuff into the Batman and Superman film? Sound off in the comments or send us your thoughts on Twitter! Meantime, I’m going to work on my Star Wars impressions. *Waves hand* These aren’t the characters you’re looking for. *Waves hand* You don’t need to make a Justice League Movie. *Waves hand* Make a film about these characters instead!
