6 Reasons Why We Want A Live Action Pokémon Movie

3. The Wonders of Special Effects

I have a firm belief that the special effects in films should serve the story, and not the other way around. Special effects present endless possibilities and can work wonders on screen when used correctly. Imagine what that Pokémon would look on screen, but the big question is how would they appear. Would they resemble their cartoony selves or be made a bit more realistic? Considering how bizarre some of the Pokémon appear, it might be a challenge. However, there are some very impressive takes on what they could look like in the real world, as seen here by artist Joshua Dunlop. The special effects of The Jungle Book would be a good example to look to for inspiration, making the animals look very lifelike without needing the audience to suspend their disbelief.

2. The Legendary Pokémon

Mewtwo

There is nothing more awesome in Pokémon, aside from Pikachu, then the Legendaries. Quickly becoming the main focus of the video games with Pokémon Gold & Silver, the Legendaries are the mythical beasts and gods of the world, and often the centrepoint for most of the games and all of the animated movies. This would also allow for a number of films based on each generation of games, with their legendary Pokémon at the centre. For a first film, I would limit it to Mew and Mewtwo, with maybe a couple of others for a little extra bit of fun. However, this could also lead to repetition in storytelling with an evil group wanting to use the Pokémon to take over the world. And should all of them be included just for appearances sake?

1. Because We Need Good Video Game Movies

Pokémon has remained successful for twenty years, the games and anime still ongoing, and is both a childhood nostalgia piece and a highly beloved franchise amongst numerous generations. Trust me, if this live action movie gets made, I’ll be first in line at the ticket office.

Do you want to see a live action Pokémon movie and what would you like to see in it? Should it follow the games or anime, or a fusion of both? Leave a comment below or on our Twitter feed.
