Top Films to Stream this March

Netflix

Watching movies is a great way to relax. You can switch off to the world for 2 hours or so, and immerse yourself in a story. Now, more than ever, we’re likely to be watching more films at home so it’s a great time to add some new ones to your watch list.

Rounders

Rounders was recently added to Netflix, and it’s definitely worth a watch for those poker lovers with a fondness for streaming movies since it is considered a kind of unofficial “sequel” to The Cincinnati Kid. Starring Matt Damon, it follows the story of a young poker player who dreams of being a professional player at the World Series of Poker.

He tried to get there by entering underground poker games in New York, but faces many challenges and setbacks on his way. When he’s forced to give up poker, he signs up for law school but struggles with the lack of excitement in his life. When an old friend is released from prison, he gets quickly dragged back into the underground poker world.

Ant-Man and the Wasp

Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man and the Wasp is a more low-key, low-risk Marvel film. Instead of saving the world and is a sequel to the 2015 Ant-Man. The film begins two years after the end of the first one, with Scott Lang under house arrest.

As he struggles to adjust to life at home he’s confronted with a new mission, fighting alongside The Wasp as they protect a lab from theft.

Hellboy (2004)

Now approaching 20 years old, Hellboy is a classic film and is currently streaming on Netflix. Hellboy is a half-human, half-demon creation, born from a misguided science experiment in the 1940s.

Some criticise the film for veering too far away from the original Hellboy comics created by Mike Mignola. However, it is still a great film and has a unique feel compared to the standard superhero movies we’re used to now.

Netflix

It (2017)

If you prefer horror films, then It is a good choice. Now also streaming on Netflix, you can see Stephen King’s Pennywise come to life from the comfort of your own home. Set in the summer of 1989, the shapeshifting demon takes the form of a clown and begins causing mayhem in the small town of Derry in Maine.

Dunkirk

Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk is a fantastic story of fighting against adversity. It tells a dramatised version of the true story from early in World War II when thousands of allied troops had to be evacuated from the shores of France. Uniquely, there is little dialogue throughout the first part of the film adding to its intensity.

Wonder Woman

In 2017, Wonder Woman finally got her own solo film on the big screen after more than 75 years of waiting. It helped to restore the faith of fans in DC Films, since they’d released a string of poor titles before that. It tells the story of a time before Wonder Woman, when she was a princess of the Amazons called Diana.

Blade Runner 2049

More than 35 years after the original 1982 film, Blade Runner 2049 managed to be a huge box office hit, generating $259 million at the box office. Harrison Ford and Edward James Olmos even return, playing the same roles they did in the original. Joining them, Ryan Gosling plays K, as the film forces you to rethink the way we use technology.

The Big Short

The Big Short does what most people wouldn’t think is possible. It makes it easy to understand how the financial crisis of 2008 took place, using cut-aways with A-list celebrities to explain the fundamentals of complicated financial products and instruments.

Based on the book by Michael Lewis, which is a true story, the film won BAFTA and Academy Awards thanks to the incredible production team and on-screen talent like Christian Bale, Steve Carrell, Ryan Gosling, and Brad Pitt.

These are just a handful of fantastic films that are currently available for streaming online. They’re classics that you will be able to watch over and over again, filling plenty of the time you’ll spend indoors.
