3. Richard Rider – ‘Nova’
Back in Guardians of the Galaxy, John C. Reilly played a comical yet admirable Nova Corps centurion named Rhomann Dey. In the comics, Dey gets mortally wounded in battle and transfers his powers to an Earth high school student named Richard Rider, who becomes the hero Nova. Shortly afterwards, space-pirate Nebula destroys the home planet of the Nova Corps, Xandar. Nova, who has trouble fitting in on Earth, returns to space and helps with the reconstruction of Xandar along with the re-founding of the Nova Corps. This might become a little cumbersome for the movie-verse, but with the right tweaking, it could work. Like with Karolina Dean, Nova could help close the gap between the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy. The basis for his appearance is already set up; now we just need to get him to the big screen.
Who we’d like to see take the role:Â Zac Efron or Logan Lerman
2. Jennifer Walters – ‘She-Hulk’
We already have a Hulk in the Avengers, so why would we need another one? Well, for many reasons! She-Hulk would make for a great solo film because the character is as complex as she is bad-ass. Jennifer Walters is a successful yet introverted lawyer who was shot and almost killed by a gang of criminals. Her cousin Bruce Banner saved her life by transferring some of his gamma-infused blood over to her. While it did save her life, it also gave her some of the Hulk’s abilities including super strength and super durability. Unlike the male Hulk, She-Hulk is articulate and well-behaved in her transformed state. She is a more outgoing and boisterous version of Jennifer Walters. This would be enjoyable on screen as we see someone struggle with an identity crisis. Will she stay within her transformed state and take advantage of her new extroverted tendencies? Or would she live the life of Jennifer Walters and only summon her hulkish alter-ego in times of peril?
Who we’d like to see take the role: Angelina Jolie, Ronda Rousey, or Gina Carano.
1. Adam Warlock – ‘Him’
Out of this entire list, Adam Warlock is the most likely to appear in a future Marvel Studios film (aside from Luke Cage). During the after-credit scene of Guardians of the Galaxy, the camera pans across the Collector’s ruined archive, where we see a destroyed cocoon. Want to take a guess at who was inside? Yep, Adam Warlock. Warlock was specifically designed and engineered to be a prototype for an invincible army of super soldiers with cosmic powers such as flight and energy manipulation. While he was being formed in his cocoon, he overheard what his creators’ plans were and burst out, taking to the stars and hoping to create a planet with no evil. Eventually, Adam Warlock battled Thanos, who mortally wounded him and almost had him killed, but Warlock placed his soul into an Infinity Gem where he waited peacefully for many years, only to come back and battle Thanos once again to prevent him from using the Infinity Gauntlet. All of these elements have already been set up in the film, and we saw that Warlock’s cocoon was cracked open, so the gears are currently in motion. Now we just have to see him team up with the Avengers and possibly lead the forces of good in the Infinity War.
Who we’d like to see take the role: Peter Dinklage. Although this seems like a very odd choice, I think Dinklage could do the role justice. He did an exceptional job as Bolivar Trask in X-Men: Days of Future Past, and not to mention his awesome continued performance as Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones. Warlock is supposed to be this epic godlike hero who can tear people apart with ease. What better way to convey this on the big screen than to have him played by a seemingly un-intimidating dwarf? It’d be a classic case of “Don’t judge a book by its cover” or “size doesn’t matter.”
Come this May, when Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters, we may have a better idea of which direction the movies are going. It’s possible that we could see some of the aforementioned characters come to the MCU in a few short years. I’m sure that whoever fills the Avengers roster will be the right choice seeing as Marvel Studios has yet to disappoint us with their casting thus far.
